I had Bremyer for 271W, American Lit since 1880. What he does best is bring discussion into every single class. Class debate is encouraged and often takes up a majority of the class period. Since it was a W Class, there were 4 response papers (2-3 pages in length), a midterm paper (5-7 pages), and a final paper (7-9) pages in length. While this may seem like a lot it really isn't. He is flexible and willing to help you with the structure of your paper. Most importantly he allows rewrites of all papers. There are reading quizzes but they are not bad at all. He has a self-depreciating sense of humor that grows on you. Most importantly, he really cares about his students and the material he is teaching. Well Worth taking.

Best professors I've ever had!
Aaron is a great prof. Good sense of humor, a wealth of knowledge and he really engages students by encouraging class discussion. He gives weekly quizzes so you should do your reading and his grading is fair. One of my favorite English courses thus far.

Cons: Notes/lecture is confusing
Needs to involve students in class discussions
The first night of class when Aaron was discussing our syllabus, I was considering dropping the course. Most profs at UConn go with 15 pages of writing for a W course.....Aaron had us writing something like 8 responses (2 pages each max), a short paper (6-8 pages) and a long paper (8-10)...and I though I would die. That's a LOT to do on top of a very regimented reading schedule and other classes. However, the discussions we had in the early days of the semester were amazing and I stuck it out which was an excellent choice. He truly gives little to no direction with the responses...he'll ask some questions to get you thinking but its up to you to go with it wherever you want. I liked the idea of the artifact search (taking an item mentioned in a book and researching its importance) but in practice it didn't work so well. He did eventually realize that we were going to be writing too much and cut back a bit, thank goodness. Towards the end of the year things fizzled a bit, I think he got overwhelmed, and our discussions suffered a little as well. He also managed to lose one set of our papers...not fun for anyone. But overall I had a fantastic time, he's easy to talk to and wants you to do well. He's also all about emailing you back which is wonderful since some profs take forever. If you want to have a lot of fun and don't mind doing your fair share of work, he's fantastic. And completely adorable. And he writes poetry, which is just a bonus.

Aaron is a good professor. Some students take advantage of him and he does not seem to notice. It really makes good students mad when he says that "he refuses to fail anyone" because after you work your butt off..it sucks to see someone do well that didnt do anything all semester

Aaron is the most personable, reasonable prof's in the English department. He relates to his students well because he understands the stresses of college. His assignments are challenging, but not impossible. Although his sense of humor is trying, he brings his cheery disposition into class everyday.

That's such a mean comment! Aaron is one of the nicest instructors you'll ever come across. And he's not dumb by any means. He's a PHD student and certainly knows his stuff. What's great about him is that he's careful to not impose his views on the students (as most english instructors unfortunately often do). He lets the student explore and challenge him/herself. He's REALLY NICE TOO!

His class was the best English class I had in my entire school career thus far. It's a lot of work, but not too overwhelming. And he's not too bad to look at, either.
